Beekeeping activity is in full swing, in preparation for the spring honey flow. Lots of getting equipment ready, making sure the hives are starting to grow coming out of the winter, setting up swarm traps, and preparing to split hives. I’m amazed at the level of interest in beekeeping, and the support from fellow beekeepers is impressive. While I’m getting help from others with ideas and beeyard horsepower (beepower?), I’m also helping 4 individuals/couples that are relatively new to beekeeping. If you have an interest in beekeeping, suggest you check out the East Texas Beekeeping Association at this website - http://www.etba.info/
You may have heard of creamed honey. I’ve made creamed honey before and am starting to produce it in small quantities. Right now, I’m producing straight honey as well as pecan, cinnamon, and blackberry flavors. For those that don’t know, creamed honey is produced with a controlled crystallization process that gives it a smooth, but crystallized texture. Look for more information in future blogs.
